Which electricity emission factor should an Indian exporter use for CBAM indirect emissions?
For cement and fertilisers, start with the default electricity factor the Commission sets for India. A lower actual factor needs a direct technical link to a generator or a qualifying power purchase agreement, with evidence. Check whether the importer's verifier accepts the CEA factor of 0.710 before relying on it.
The options
- Default factor for India, from the Commission's default values.
- Actual factor from a captive or directly linked plant, backed by metering and fuel records.
- Actual factor under a power purchase agreement that meets the CBAM conditions.
Steel and aluminium
Indirect emissions are not part of the charged figure for iron, steel, aluminium or hydrogen, so this choice matters mainly for cement and fertilisers.
What to keep
Monthly units by source, contracts, renewable certificates if any, and a note of which factor you used and why.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted installation records, the starting point for the actual emissions an EU importer asks for.
