When should an Indian exporter start CBAM verification in the year?

Early in the reporting year. There is no fixed verification deadline, but a calendar-year report cannot be finished before January, importers file by 30 September, and the verification guidance says declarants need reports by mid-August at the latest. Suppliers of precursors should verify first, so their customers can use the results.

The fixed points

If you make a precursor

Aim to have your report verified as early in the year as possible. The operator who uses your product as input needs your verification report before its own verification.

If you make a complex good

Agree a timeline with your verifier and finalise the emissions report early, for example in the second quarter. The guidance example: if verification is to finish by the end of July, compile your report by the end of June. If precursor reports have not arrived by then, use the Commission's defaults for those inputs.

Why begin before year end

The verifier can do the strategic analysis, risk analysis and a site visit during the year. That brings problems to light while there is still time to fix them. Changes to your systems must still leave time for the verified report to be shared.

Capacity

Contract a verifier early. Accreditation is on a rolling basis and verifier capacity may tighten near the end of the reporting period.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel, power and purchase documents month by month into dated records, so the year's data builds up as you go instead of in a rush after December. It does not schedule or perform verification.
