Can the same agency validate and verify a CCTS offset project?
No. Under BEE's offset procedure the accredited agency that verifies a project's emission reductions must be different from the one that validated it, for any crediting period. You pick both agencies and record each choice on the ICM portal before the work starts.
The rule
Step 6 of the project cycle says the non-obligated entity appoints an Accredited Carbon Verification Agency for verification, and that agency must differ from the one assigned for validation. Section A6.2.2 repeats it.
Reporting duties on the agencies
- Validation: the agency updates its status on the portal every 90 days until it files the report.
- Verification: the agency posts a status update every 30 calendar days until it files the issuance request, naming open corrective action or clarification requests, delays, termination or a negative opinion.
Planning tip
Only agencies accredited for your sector scope can do either job, and some are accredited only for the compliance mechanism. Check BEE's list for two agencies that cover your scope before you sign with the first.
What Senseible does here
Senseible keeps fuel and electricity invoices as dated, fingerprinted monthly records, the consumption data a project's monitoring report and its verifier will ask to trace.
