What flare efficiency does CCTS tool BM-T-004 allow for methane flaring?
For an open flare, 50 per cent in any minute a flame is detected and zero otherwise. For an enclosed flare, a 90 per cent default when the flame is detected and temperature and gas flow are within the maker's specification, or a measured value. Low height flares lose 10 points.
Scope
- Flaring of residual gas where methane is the largest component and the source is biogenic: biogas, landfill gas or wastewater treatment gas.
- Not applicable where auxiliary fuel is added to the residual gas.
- Efficiency is worked out minute by minute.
The efficiency rules
- Open flare: 50 per cent when a flame is detected in the minute, otherwise 0.
- Enclosed flare, Option A: 90 per cent when the flame is detected and the flare temperature and gas flow are within the manufacturer's operating specification, otherwise 0.
- Enclosed low height flare: subtract 10 percentage points from the default.
- Enclosed flare, Option B: measured efficiency, by an accredited entity at least twice a year or measured every minute, under the same operating conditions.
What Senseible does here
Senseible does not log flare data; it keeps the plant's power and fuel invoices that sit alongside it in a monitoring report.
