How much CO2 does a CNG station's compressor add per kg of gas sold?
Divide the compressor's monthly kWh by the kilograms of CNG dispensed, then multiply by 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. That is the station's Scope 2 per kg. Gas vented during maintenance is unburnt methane and counts in Scope 1. The CO2 from burning the gas belongs to the vehicle owner.
Records you need
- Compressor sub-meter readings, or the station's electricity bill if the compressor dominates.
- Kilograms dispensed from the dispenser totaliser.
- Maintenance logs for any venting.
For fleets
Your Scope 1 is 2.69 kg CO2 per kg of CNG burned. The station's compression energy is upstream, Category 3.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
