How does BEE tool BM-T-014 split emissions between a main product and co-products in a CCTS project?

BM-T-014 is BEE's tool for sharing a process's emissions between the main product a CCTS methodology credits and its co-products or by-products. You use it only when your methodology calls it. Its CDM counterpart allows a split by market price, substitution, or energy content when all outputs are fuels.

When the tool applies

Apportioning matters when one process makes more than one useful output and only one of them is used or credited in the project. A plant that makes a single product does not need it, and you cannot invoke it on your own to shrink project emissions. The methodology text says whether apportioning is required, optional or not allowed, so start there.

How the CDM counterpart splits emissions

BM-T-014 (version 1.0, March 2025) has the same title as the CDM apportioning tool (Tool 25). Its rules could not be read for this page, so the points below are CDM practice that BEE's tool may differ from.

Steps for a price based split

  1. List every output and its quantity from production records.
  2. Take the ex works price of each from sales invoices for the same period.
  3. Main product share = its value divided by the value of all outputs.
  4. Apply that share to the process emissions the methodology names, and keep the basis for the whole crediting period.

Why a footprint split will not do

An ISO 14067 product footprint avoids allocation first and can split by mass. A CCTS project uses the rule its tool fixes, because the aim is a conservative, repeatable credit figure, not a product label. Do not reuse a footprint split in a project document without checking it against BM-T-014.

Illustrative example: why the basis matters

Figures are illustrative. Use the basis the tool and methodology allow.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the fuel and electricity bills behind the process emissions and keeps them as a dated record. Production quantities and prices come from your plant records.
