Coimbatore makes about 10.5 million pump sets a year: what is the cluster's carbon footprint?

Only 2 to 3 kg per pump set from the makers' own energy: about 28,000 t CO2 a year on today's grid factor, from 40 million kWh of power and 500 kL of DG diesel across roughly 600 units. The castings, stampings and copper inside each pump carry far more.

Why your per-pump figure is mostly what you buy

Your plant adds a couple of kilograms per pump. The iron castings alone usually carry several times that: a 15 kg set of castings at about 0.65 t CO2 per tonne, an estimate of grey iron foundry energy per tonne of good castings, is already about 10 kg, before stampings, copper winding wire and the motor's electrical steel. If a buyer asks for a product figure, ask your foundry for its kWh or coke per tonne first.

Three sizes of unit, three figures a year

Worked example: a medium unit making 150 pump sets a day

Energy use is TERI's typical medium unit; 300 working days is an assumption. Factors: CEA grid factor for FY 2025-26 and Senseible's diesel factor from IPCC defaults.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your TANGEDCO bills and diesel slips into a monthly carbon number for the plant, the figure you then divide by pump sets made; castings and copper come from your suppliers.
