What are the emissions from drying copra?
Copra is dried in the sun, in kilns burning coconut shells and husks, or in electric or solar dryers. Shell and husk fires give biogenic CO2 reported separately, with methane and nitrous oxide in Scope 1. Electric dryers count at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh.
Methods
- Sun drying: almost no energy, but weather-dependent.
- Shell-fired kilns: biomass fuel from the coconut itself.
- Electric or solar hybrid dryers.
For oil mills
Copra bought is Scope 3. Ask the drier how it was dried, since kiln smoke and quality both depend on it.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
