Senseible

My pharma customer invited us to the Energize programme. What is it and what do I commit to?

Energize is a programme run by Schneider Electric with large pharmaceutical companies, launched in November 2021, to help their suppliers buy renewable electricity. It offers education and access to individual or group renewable power deals. Joining is free for suppliers of the sponsoring companies; read the participation terms before you sign.

Why your customer is asking

For a pharma company, the electricity its suppliers use is part of its Scope 3. Moving suppliers to renewable power is one of the few ways to cut that figure at scale, so customers invite suppliers to programmes like Energize and ask them to report progress.

What to confirm before joining

  1. Ask your customer for the participation terms in writing and read what reporting, targets or timelines they include.
  2. Ask whether a group renewable power deal is open in India and in which states. The programme started with suppliers' load in Europe and North America, and any power purchase agreement is a separate contract with its own terms.
  3. Ask what data your customer will see and how often, and whether it overlaps with the PSCI or other questionnaires you already answer.

Data you will need either way

Indian routes to renewable power

If a group deal is not available, the usual Indian options are a discom green tariff, green energy open access, group captive solar or wind, rooftop solar, and RECs. Each has different cost, contract length and evidence for a Scope 2 claim, so choose with your customer's reporting rules in view.

What Senseible does here

Senseible gives you the per-site electricity baseline from your bills, location-based Scope 2 at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, and market-based Scope 2 when you record the green tariff, open access or REC evidence.
