How do we explain our carbon footprint to factory workers?
Use what they see every day. Show that the footprint comes mostly from electricity and fuel they run, then link actions to it: switching off idle compressors, fixing air leaks, closing furnace doors. Put one monthly number on the notice board, kWh or litres per unit, rather than tonnes of CO2.
Messages that work
- Every hour a machine runs idle costs power and adds carbon.
- A leak you can hear wastes compressed air all shift.
- Logging fuel correctly keeps our buyer numbers right.
What to measure
- kWh per unit made.
- Litres of diesel per day.
- Leaks fixed per month.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site, and labels estimates as estimates.
