How do I calculate the carbon footprint of flexo label printing per square metre?

Divide the press electricity, including UV or hot air drying, by square metres printed, at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Add the label stock, liner, inks and varnish from supplier data, and count make-ready waste, since short runs waste more stock per label.

Where it comes from

Short runs

Each job needs make-ready material and time. For short runs, waste stock can be a large share, so report per job when runs vary.

Liner waste

Release liner is left with the label user. Note whether a liner recycling scheme is used.

Worked example: press energy per m2 (one month, illustrative inputs)

Inputs are illustrative; stock and inks are added from supplier data.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
