How much energy per tonne should a hot-dip galvanizing or wire drawing unit use?

BEE's energy conservation guidelines for MSMEs give 0.03 to 0.17 tonnes of oil equivalent per tonne for galvanizing and 0.01 to 0.07 toe per tonne for wire drawing. One toe is 10 million kcal, so convert your fuel and power to kcal and divide by tonnes processed.

How to calculate

Multiply each fuel's kg by its calorific value, add electricity converted on the basis your energy auditor uses, and divide the total kcal by 10 million to get toe. Divide by tonnes galvanized or drawn in the same period.

Quantities are illustrative; the 10,500 kcal per kg figure is the low end of BEE's range for liquid fuels.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your fuel invoices and electricity bills into monthly energy totals. Add your production figures and you get energy per tonne to set against these benchmarks, month after month.
