Senseible

Which chemical imports into German chemical parks such as Rhine-Neckar or Leuna count for CBAM?

Only a few: hydrogen, ammonia, nitric acid, potassium nitrate and nitrogen or mixed fertilisers are CBAM goods. Most organic chemicals, polymers, solvents and specialty chemicals are not in Annex I. Hydrogen imports need a declarant from the first tonne, because the 50 tonne exemption does not apply to it.

Covered chemical goods

Not covered

Organic chemicals in chapter 29, polymers in chapter 39, industrial gases other than hydrogen, and inorganic chemicals not listed in Annex I.

What counts per good

For hydrogen, only direct emissions count. For ammonia, nitric acid and fertilisers, direct and indirect emissions count, and ammonia's embedded emissions flow into nitric acid and fertilisers made from it.

What Senseible does here

Senseible's CBAM cost calculator estimates certificate cost from 2026 to 2034 for covered goods, and non-EU suppliers can use Senseible to keep document-backed fuel and electricity records to share with you. Senseible does not file CBAM declarations or verify emissions.
