How do I calculate CO2 from a glass fibre furnace?
Add furnace fuel CO2 to process CO2 from carbonate raw materials such as limestone and dolomite in the batch, then divide by tonnes of fibre produced. Electric boosting adds Scope 2. Binders and sizing chemicals sit in Scope 3.
Process CO2 from the batch
- Limestone: 0.440 tonnes CO2 per tonne.
- Dolomite: 0.477 tonnes CO2 per tonne.
- Use actual batch tonnes from stores records.
Fuel and power
Natural gas or oil for the furnace is Scope 1. Electric boosting, bushings and winding are Scope 2. Count fibre waste remelted or sent away in the tonnes produced.
Worked example (illustrative figures)
- Limestone in batch: 300 kg per tonne of glass.
- 300 × 0.440 = 132 kg process CO2 per tonne.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads bills, fuel invoices and production records into dated, fingerprinted records, so the figure you send a buyer can be traced to its documents.
