Which HSN codes identify refrigerant gas purchases for Scope 1?

Single refrigerant gases such as R-32, R-134a and R-22 sit under HSN heading 2903. Blends such as R-404A and R-410A sit under heading 3827 since HS 2022, and under 3824 78 on older invoices. Read the gas name and net kg from the line too.

When the gas hides in a service bill

An AMC or repair invoice is billed under a service code (SAC heading 9987 for maintenance and repair), with the gas inside the job description. GST invoices often show only four or six digits too, which is not enough to tell one HFC from another. Ask the service provider to list the gas name and kilograms charged on every invoice. Without both, you cannot convert to CO2e.

From the line to CO2e

Multiply the net kilograms charged by the gas's 100-year GWP, using one IPCC report for the whole inventory, and state which one. For a blend, the GWP is the mass-weighted average of its components.

Worked example: one service invoice

With AR6 values the same 10 kg is 10 x 2,255.5 = 22,555 kg CO2e. State the GWP set you used.

What Senseible does here

Senseible classifies invoice lines by HSN code first and reads the gas name and quantity printed on the line. A refrigerant figure needs the gas type and net kilograms to apply a GWP.
