Which India-specific parameters do SEBI-registered ESG ratings look at?

SEBI's list of India-specific ESG parameters includes PAT scheme status, zero liquid discharge, EPR compliance, operations near ecologically sensitive areas, CSR spending, jobs in smaller towns, the share of inputs bought from MSMEs and from within India, gender pay disclosure, and governance items like related-party deals and royalty growth.

Indian standards raters should use

SEBI's guidance tells raters to consider Indian standards: GRIHA, IGBC or ECBC for buildings; ZED certification, Air Act rules and continuous emissions monitoring for air; PAT, NAPCC and the India GHG Programme for emissions; Indian waste rules including plastic, e-waste and fly ash; zero liquid discharge and CETP rules for effluent; and CGWB over-exploited areas for water. Intensity ratios should be adjusted for purchasing power parity.

Why it matters to MSMEs

Because a listed buyer's rating counts how much it sources from MSMEs, buying from Indian small suppliers can help its score, which gives suppliers with clean, documented data an argument in negotiations.

What Senseible does here

Senseible gives MSME suppliers bill-based energy and emissions records they can share with listed buyers. It does not compute ESG ratings or the buyer's MSME sourcing share.
