Does a kWh indicator on an induction furnace actually save power?

Only if operators use it. BEE's Punjab foundry report expects 20 kWh less per tonne, 580 down to 560, by setting a kWh target for each melt and tapping on time: 7,200 kWh a year on 360 t, about 4.9 t CO2. It costs about Rs 38,000 and paid back in 1.05 years (2011).

What the device does

An integrator reads the inverter's output power and adds it up through the melt. You set the kWh a melt should take, based on your best past melts, and it shows how many units are left. The operator taps when the metal is ready, instead of holding it while moulds or samples catch up.

What the audit saw

A number in the report to question

The report says the lowest consumption achieved was 650 units per tonne, yet it sets the baseline at 580 and the target at 560. Both cannot describe the same furnace. Use your own meter: take the lowest kWh per tonne of your last 30 melts as the target, not the report's figure.

Making the saving stick

360 t a year, before and after

Grid factor 0.675 kg CO2 per kWh (CEA, FY 2025-26), an estimate. The report's 5.83 t used an older factor.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your power bills into monthly kWh and CO2. Divide by tonnes tapped and you can see whether the integrator target is holding month to month. The calculators turn your own kWh per tonne into CO2 per tonne.
