Senseible

Our project is registered with another carbon programme. Can we move it to Verra?

Only once it is no longer active there. Under VCS Standard v5.0 a project registered with and active in another GHG programme cannot seek VCS registration. A formerly registered project can, if it notifies that programme, applies current VCS rules, reassesses its baseline and requests registration within two years of becoming inactive there.

The five conditions in section 3.21.3

  1. You requested registration with the other programme within Verra's own registration deadlines.
  2. You notify the other programme that you intend to register with Verra.
  3. You apply the latest VCS rules, methodologies, modules and tools.
  4. You show regulatory surplus and reassess the baseline on today's conditions.
  5. You request VCS registration within ten years of the VCS initial crediting period start date, and within two years of the date the project became inactive in the other programme.

Which tonnes can become VCUs

Only reductions and removals after the date of inactivity in the other programme. Grouped projects and projects with reversal risk must also have no gaps between monitoring periods after that date. Anything the other programme already credited stays there.

Proof that nothing is counted twice

If the other programme rejected you

A project rejected elsewhere for procedural or eligibility reasons may still register with Verra if it meets every VCS rule. The project description and later monitoring reports must name each programme you applied to and why it said no.

Example: leaving another programme in 2027

Dates are an example.

What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps monitoring records with a clear date on every bill and reading, which helps show where one programme's period ends and the next begins. It does not register projects or cancel credits with any programme.
