How does a cement plant in Nepal count CO2 from its kiln?
Add calcination CO2 from clinker made to fuel CO2 from coal or petcoke burnt, usually imported. Grinding power from Nepal's mostly hydro grid adds little. Plants that buy clinker instead of making it put that clinker's emissions in Scope 3.
Kiln
- Clinker made, in tonnes, times its calcination factor.
- Coal or petcoke burnt, with heating value and carbon content.
- Add any diesel for mining and loaders.
Bought clinker
Clinker bought from another plant is Scope 3, category 1. Ask the seller for its figure per tonne.
Low power factor
Electricity matters less where the grid is mostly hydro, so the kiln dominates the cement figure.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure you send a buyer traces back to the documents behind it.
