What do Rabale's chemical and bulk drug units use in energy, and what do listed pharma buyers ask?
A listed pharma buyer may ask for your Scope 1 and 2 once you supply 2% or more of its purchases. Rabale's 70 or so chemical and bulk drug units, inside TTC-MIDC, use 20,501 toe a year on electricity and furnace oil for about 421,000 t of output.
The cluster
- About 70 chemical and bulk drug units inside TTC-MIDC, which has over 4,000 units in all.
- Products: tablets, ointments, oral drugs, process oils, paints and solvents, for India and export.
- 20,501 toe a year, which works out to about 0.049 toe, or 2.0 GJ, per tonne of output.
- Main energy: grid electricity and furnace oil.
Why the split decides your CO2
The cluster summary gives no split between power and oil, and it changes the answer by more than double. If all 20,501 toe were electricity, it would be about 160,900 t CO2; if all furnace oil, about 66,400 t. Your own figure needs kWh and litres, not a total energy bill.
What a listed buyer can ask
- SEBI's BRSR value chain rules cover partners that each make up 2% or more of a top 250 listed company's purchases or sales.
- The disclosure is voluntary from FY 2025-26, with assessment or assurance voluntary from FY 2026-27, so requests vary by buyer.
- Typical asks: Scope 1 and 2 for the year, energy used, and the basis of each figure.
What to send
- Electricity: kWh from twelve months of bills, times 0.675 kg CO2.
- Furnace oil: litres from invoices, times 2.97 kg CO2; boiler diesel at 2.645 kg.
- Total, with the factors named, and tonnes produced, so the buyer can pro-rate to what it bought.
A unit making 6,000 t a year at the cluster average (estimate)
- Energy: 6,000 t x 0.049 toe = about 292 toe
- If half is power: 146 toe = about 1,700 MWh x 0.675 = 1,150 t CO2
- Other half as furnace oil: 146 toe x 41.868 GJ x 77.4 kg = 473 t CO2
- Total about 1,620 t CO2, or 0.27 t per tonne
The 50:50 split is an assumption for the arithmetic; the cluster summary does not give one. Use your own bills.
What Senseible does here
Senseible turns your bills and oil invoices into BRSR-ready Scope 1 and 2 figures with the factor shown on each line, so the file you send a listed buyer can be traced back.
