How much electricity does a stove, gas lighter, cutlery or cookware unit use a year?

TERI's Rajkot profile puts a typical unit at 247,565 kWh a year for stoves, 116,405 for knives and cutlery, 73,398 for cookers and non-stick, 72,424 for gas lighters and 31,636 for kitchen baskets. Spread over each unit's output, that is about 0.26 to 0.52 kWh a piece.

Per unit and per piece

Why stoves top the list

A stove starts as CRC sheet deep drawn on a hydraulic press, is spot welded for the stand, then tested for burner efficiency and flame stability. Presses of 100 to 150 t on 7.5 to 15 hp pumps, and 5 to 10 kVA welders, draw far more per piece than a mechanical press stamping a spoon. Non-stick pans add an electric oven at 400 to 450 C for about 30 minutes per cycle.

What your kWh leaves out

What to send a buyer

  1. kWh per piece for the product they buy, not the plant average. If lines share a meter, split by machine hours and say so.
  2. Generator diesel, if any.
  3. Grams of each material per piece, and what was outsourced.

CO2 per piece from factory power (estimate)

Unit kWh, unit counts and output from TERI's Rajkot kitchenware profile; pieces per unit are category output divided by units, so a unit making heavier items will sit higher. Grid factor CEA FY 2025-26.

What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps each month's electricity bill behind the kWh you report, in a Scope 3 supplier trail the buyer can open and check, so a per-piece figure rests on bills rather than a spreadsheet.
