What does an EU importer need for plates and coil from the Rourkela steel plant?
Rourkela is a blast furnace and converter plant, so the importer needs direct emissions per tonne from the site's mass balance across coke ovens, sinter, blast furnace and steelmaking, plus indirect emissions, the production period and CN code. Plates under 7208 and pipes under 7305 or 7306 are CBAM goods.
Data per shipment
- CN code and tonnes.
- Direct and indirect emissions per tonne for the period.
- Installation and production process.
- Actual data or default values, and who verified it.
Pipes
Welded pipes made from the plant's own coil carry the coil as a precursor. Ask for the pipe figure, not just the coil figure.
If no figure comes
The importer falls back to default values, which are set high on purpose. A plant figure usually saves money.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads coal, coke, gas, electricity and freight invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so each figure in a CBAM or buyer response can be traced back to the documents behind it.
