A supplier shows "Commitment removed" on the SBTi dashboard. What does that mean?
The company promised to set science-based targets and the promise was taken off the list. Under SBTi Commitment and Target Statuses V2.1 (October 2026), that happens when targets miss the 24-month deadline, fail validation or go unpublished, claims break SBTi's guide, or the company withdraws. Some removals are harmless.
Reasons that are a warning
- No suitable targets submitted within 24 months of committing.
- Targets submitted but never successfully validated.
- Validated targets the company chose not to publish in time.
- Claims that break SBTi's communications guide or could mislead.
Reasons that are not
- The company asked to withdraw.
- It closed, merged or was acquired.
- Its group set and published targets at parent level, so a separate commitment was no longer needed.
What happens next for the company
A company with a removed commitment cannot list a new commitment, but it can still submit targets for validation directly. If the problem was a misleading claim corrected within the commitment period, the commitment may be reinstated as Active.
What to ask the supplier
- Which reason applied?
- Does a parent company now hold a validated target that includes you? Send its dashboard entry.
- If not, when will you submit targets, and what are your Scope 1 and 2 for the latest year?
Example: an expired commitment
- Committed: 15 March 2024
- Deadline to submit targets: 15 March 2026 (24 months)
- Nothing submitted: commitment removed
- Supplier can still submit targets; it cannot show a commitment again
Example dates.
What Senseible does here
Senseible helps a supplier answer the follow-up question with its own Scope 1 and 2 from bills and invoices, and keeps Scope 3 supplier evidence for buyers. It does not set, submit or validate SBTi targets; SBTi Services validates them.

- Why an SBTi target shows "Expired"
