What carbon data do listed pharma companies ask Selaqui formulation units for?
Usually your Scope 1 and 2 for April to March, and a figure per batch or per thousand tablets for their products. SEBI made value chain reporting voluntary from FY 2025-26, so requests come by choice or contract. TERI's 2015 profile gives the benchmark: 52 units, 8,074 toe a year, 63% of it electricity.
Selaqui in TERI's profile
- About 52 units, more than 30 small and about 5 large, set up from 2003-04 under the special industrial package for Uttarakhand.
- 32 hold WHO-GMP certification; one has US FDA and one UK MHRA approval. Many export.
- Most buy APIs and do job work for larger pharma companies. Bulk drug making is restricted in the Doon valley.
- About 379 million tablets, 106 million capsules and 11.5 million sachets a year.
Where your footprint sits
- Electricity, 59.6 million kWh a year for the cluster: HVAC with 20 to 75 TR chillers, air compressors and process machines.
- HSD and LDO, 1,573 kL, and LPG, 1,365 t: mostly 1 tph coil boilers running 8 to 12 hours a day, plus DG sets.
- Condensate from dryers is drained at 85 to 95 °C, about 15 to 20% of the boiler's heat input, in most units.
Why the request reaches a job-work unit
SEBI's March 2025 circular defines a value chain partner as one making up 2% or more of a listed company's purchases or sales by value, and lets the company stop once it covers 75%. Disclosure is voluntary for the top 250 listed companies from FY 2025-26, with assurance voluntary from FY 2026-27. Nothing in SEBI's rules obliges you to answer, but a supply agreement can, and a customer that chooses to report will want figures for what it buys from you.
What to send
- Annual totals by fuel and for grid power, each with the emission factor and its source.
- A figure per thousand tablets, per batch or per pack for that customer's products, with the allocation basis stated: machine hours, floor area under HVAC or output.
- What you left out, such as transport or packaging.
- The bills behind each line, offered for inspection rather than handed over.
Worked example: the cluster at today's factors
- Electricity: 59.6 million kWh x 0.675 = 40,230 t CO2
- HSD and LDO: 1,573 kL x 2.645 kg per litre = 4,161 t CO2
- LPG: 1,365 t x 2.98 = 4,068 t CO2
- Total 48,459 t, 83% of it electricity, over 496.7 million tablets, capsules and sachets
- Average: 48,459,000 kg / 496,700,000 = about 98 g CO2 per piece, or 98 kg per thousand
TERI's 2015 quantities with Senseible's factors; HSD and LDO both at the diesel factor. A cluster average hides big gaps between a tablet line and a liquid orals line, so allocate your own.
What Senseible does here
Senseible turns a year of power bills, diesel and LPG invoices into the Scope 1 and 2 lines a listed customer's BRSR value chain request asks for, each with its factor, its source and the bill behind it.
