A supplier shut down mid-year before sending carbon data. What do we use?
Use what you have for the months you bought from them: quantities from your own purchase invoices times an average or spend-based factor, labelled as secondary data. Do not leave the purchases out. Use the new supplier's data from when you switched, and note the change in your method log.
Steps
- Total the quantities bought from the closed supplier in the year.
- Apply an industry average factor for that material, with the source.
- Mark those lines as secondary data.
- Switch to the new supplier's figures from the change date.
Keep for later
If the closed supplier's data appears later, for example through a buyer or industry body, replace the estimate and note it.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads supplier invoices into dated records with the quantity, unit and factor on each line, and marks lines without a usable quantity as needing data instead of guessing.
