How do we calculate emissions from a temple or community kitchen that feeds thousands daily?
Add up LPG, firewood, diesel and electricity used by the kitchen, then divide by meals served. CO2 from firewood is biogenic and reported separately, while its methane and nitrous oxide count. Switching from firewood to steam or LPG changes both numbers.
What to collect
- LPG cylinders or bulk LPG bought.
- Firewood in kilograms.
- Boiler fuel if cooking uses steam.
- Electricity for grinders and lighting.
Per meal
Divide by meals served. It turns a large total into a figure donors and trustees can follow year to year.
