What do Toyota's Green Purchasing Guidelines ask auto-component suppliers to do on CO2?

They ask suppliers to cut CO2 towards carbon neutrality, report it, and run a certified environmental management system such as ISO 14001. Toyota's global guidelines were revised in January 2026; the reduction figure is set by each Toyota region and your contract, so ask Toyota Kirloskar Motor which one applies to you.

Where the request comes from

Toyota's Environmental Challenge 2050 includes a life cycle zero CO2 challenge, which covers parts and materials bought from suppliers, and a plant zero CO2 challenge. Toyota's Green Procurement Guidelines, earlier called the Green Purchasing Guidelines, turn this into requests to suppliers. The current global edition, revised in January 2026 in line with Toyota's 8th Environmental Action Plan, is organised around carbon neutrality, circular economy and nature positive, plus an environmental management system, and supplements Toyota's Supplier Sustainability Guidelines.

What suppliers are asked for

The target figure differs by region

Toyota's regional companies publish their own supplier documents. Toyota Motor Europe's 2023 Sustainable Purchasing Guidelines asked for a 50 percent cut in CO2 from supplied parts and materials by 2030 against 2019, and Toyota in North America has asked suppliers to commit to an annual cut of at least 2 percent. Do not borrow another region's figure: ask Toyota Kirloskar Motor's purchasing team which guideline and target your contract follows.

How to answer well

  1. Build a plant-level baseline for one full year from electricity bills and fuel invoices.
  2. Report location-based and market-based Scope 2 separately, with documents for any renewable supply.
  3. Set an absolute yearly reduction target and show the projects behind it: efficiency, rooftop solar, fuel switch.
  4. Keep each year's records so the year-on-year change can be traced back to bills.

Worked example: tracking a yearly reduction (illustrative)

Check the change against production too; a fall in output can look like a reduction.

What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps fingerprinted yearly Scope 1 and 2 records built from your bills and fuel invoices, so you can show your OEM the year-on-year change and the documents behind it.
