What are the UK CBAM default values for rebar and wire rod?
HMRC's UK CBAM default for deformed bars, the usual rebar, under 7214 20 00 is 3.040 tCO2e per tonne. Deformed wire rod in coils (7213 10 00) is 3.309, and smooth tyre cord rod (7213 91 20) 1.529. One default per code applies to every country until 2029.
Defaults
- 7214 20 00: bars and rods with ribs or deformations from rolling (rebar): 3.040 tCO2e per tonne.
- 7213 10 00: hot-rolled rod in irregular coils with ribs: 3.309.
- 7213 91 20: smooth tyre cord rod in coils: 1.529.
Induction furnace mills
Most of an induction furnace route's emissions come from electricity, which the UK does not count until at least 2029. What stays in is the coal or gas in sponge iron, reheating furnace fuel and the precursors. That direct-only figure may come in below the default, but only monitoring and verification will show it.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads sponge iron, billet and reheating fuel invoices with dispatch tonnes, so your TMT figure can be set against 3.040 before your buyer files. We build the figure from your records and check every figure in-house; for the UK it must then be verified by a verifier accredited for UK CBAM. Have your own verifier? Send it to them.
