How does a Veraval fish processing and ice plant count its emissions?
Electricity for freezing, cold storage and ice making is usually the largest part, at 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh. Add diesel for generators and refrigerant leaks topped up during the year. Divide by tonnes of fish processed.
Sources
- Electricity for blast freezers, cold rooms and ice plants.
- Diesel for generators during outages.
- Refrigerant top ups: ammonia has no global warming effect; HFCs do.
Records
- Monthly units from bills.
- Diesel invoices.
- Refrigerant service records with kilograms added.
Per tonne
Divide by tonnes processed or frozen; export buyers often want it per kilogram of product.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted plant records, so the monthly intensity behind a figure can be traced to its source.
