Can a project rejected by another carbon registry apply to Verra?
Yes, if it meets every VCS rule. VCS Standard v5.0 allows a project rejected by another program for procedural or eligibility reasons to be considered. The project description and every monitoring report must then name each program applied to and the reasons given for rejection.
What the standard says
- Projects rejected by other greenhouse gas programs for procedural or eligibility reasons may be considered for registration where they meet all VCS Program rules.
- The project description and the monitoring reports must clearly state every program the project applied to.
- They must also state any reasons for rejection.
What it does not do
A rejection elsewhere is not an automatic pass or fail at Verra. The project is judged on the VCS rules, including the start date, the registration deadlines and the methodology's conditions. If the reason for the first rejection was an eligibility problem, expect the same question here.
Not the same as moving a registered project
A project that was registered with another program and is moving across has its own rules, including a request within two years of becoming inactive in the other program and a fresh baseline. This page is about a project that was turned down, not one that was registered.
What to gather
- The other program's name, the dates you applied and every letter or finding it sent.
- A short plain statement of what changed, if anything, since the rejection.
- The dates of your project start and first operation, since Verra's deadlines count from them.
What Senseible does here
Senseible does not register projects or decide eligibility. It keeps dated invoices and bills, so the project's operating history is easy to show.
- Carbon credits
- Moving a project to Verra from another registry
- Listing and registration deadlines for energy projects
