Senseible

How many years of credits can an energy or industry project earn under VCS Standard v5?

Up to 45 years. Energy and industry projects under VCS Standard v5.0 get a five-year crediting period that can be renewed eight times. Geological carbon storage follows the same rule. Agricultural land management without soil carbon change and livestock projects get five years renewable twice, so 15 years at most.

Table 8 in plain terms

Every renewal is a fresh test

Forty-five years is a ceiling, not a promise. At each renewal you apply the latest VCS rules and an active methodology, show the activity is still not required by a systematically enforced law, and reassess whether your baseline is still valid. If it is not, a new baseline is set for the next five years, which can shrink the credits. The VVB also visits the site at each renewal.

Deadlines that can end the project early

Example: a fuel-switch project starting in 2028

Tonnes and the rule change are an example, to show why revenue plans should not assume all nine periods.

What Senseible does here

Senseible keeps fuel, electricity and production records traceable to source bills year after year, which is what each baseline reassessment draws on, and it gives carbon credit eligibility signals. It does not validate, verify or register projects.
