How long is the crediting period for a CCTS offset project in India?
You choose one of two options in the project design document: a fixed crediting period of ten years, or a renewable period of five years that can be renewed twice, for fifteen years in all. The period starts on the registration date or the project start date, whichever is later.
The two options
- Fixed: ten years, no renewal.
- Renewable: five years at a time, with at most two renewals, so fifteen years in total.
- Each renewal is validated by an accredited agency and processed like a registration, with a revised PDD in track-change mode and the registration fee slabs.
Rules that tie to the period
- Validation must be completed within two years of the project start date.
- Issuance requests for a crediting period must be filed within two years after that period ends, or credits for it are no longer issued.
- A project cannot be registered again once its final crediting period has expired.
- Monitored data must be kept electronically for two years after the crediting period or the last issuance, whichever is later.
How to choose
A renewable period suits equipment that will run well beyond five years, but each renewal re-tests additionality against the rules then in force. A fixed period gives certainty for ten years with no re-test.
What Senseible does here
Senseible keeps fuel and electricity invoices as dated, fingerprinted monthly records, the consumption data a project's monitoring report and its verifier will ask to trace.
