Can grid-connected solar or wind credits still get a CCP label on Verra?

Yes, through one route. ICVCM found ACM0002 and AMS-I.D grid renewable credits do not meet the Core Carbon Principles, but approved Verra's revised VMR0017 v1.0. Verra labels its credits only if the baseline uses VT0009 and VT0008, additionality is assessed with VT0008, and any benchmark analysis meets VT0008 requirements 5.4.2(2) b and c.

Old methods and the new one

Verra's three conditions for VMR0017

  1. The baseline is set using VT0009 Combined Baseline and Additionality Assessment and VT0008 Additionality Assessment.
  2. Additionality is assessed with VT0008.
  3. If a benchmark analysis is used, it meets requirements 5.4.2(2) b) and c) of VT0008.

What this means for an existing solar park

Credits already issued under ACM0002 or AMS-I.D do not become labelled. Moving to VMR0017 is a methodology switch. If it counts as a new VCS methodology for your project, VCS Standard v5.0 puts the renewal request within two years of its approval and within four years of the end of the previous crediting period. The project then has to pass the VT0008 additionality test on its own numbers.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reports location-based Scope 2 from electricity bills and market-based Scope 2 when you hold certificate or contract data, which is where most renewable claims end up. It does not label, rate or sell credits.
