How do I calculate the carbon footprint of wall putty per kg?
In cement-based putty, white cement usually drives most of the footprint: multiply the cement per kg by the cement maker's figure. Add calcite, polymer and bags, then blending and packing electricity divided by kg packed.
Materials
- White cement by weight.
- Calcite or dolomite powder.
- Redispersible polymer powder and additives.
Process
- Dry blending in ribbon or plough mixers.
- Packing in bags.
- Dust collection.
Per kg
Report per kg by product. Cement content drives most of the figure, so give the white cement share.
Worked example: wall putty unit per kg (one month)
- Electricity: 20,000 kWh x 0.710 = 14,200 kg CO2
- Putty packed (kg): 2,000,000
- Plant total: 14,200 / 2,000,000 = 0.00710 kg CO2 per kg
- Add white cement and polymer for the full figure

What Senseible does here
Senseible reads the plant's electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and fuel invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, the plant-level input to a per-unit figure. Bought-in materials go to the supplier evidence trail; product reports are self-declared drafts.
