What is a CORC on Puro.earth?
A CORC, or CO2 Removal Certificate, is Puro.earth's credit for one metric tonne of CO2 removed and stored durably under the Puro Standard. It is issued after an independent auditor verifies the removal, lands in the supplier's Puro Registry account, and is retired when the buyer uses it for a claim.
What one CORC stands for
- One metric tonne of CO2 removed from the air and stored for 100 years or more, by a method certified under the Puro Standard.
- Net removal only: the supplier must remove more CO2 than its process emits, and only the net amount is credited.
- Avoided or reduced emissions are kept out of the count. Puro.earth certifies removals only.
- Each methodology carries a durability label of 100+, 200+ or 1,000+ years. Biochar is labelled 200+.
How a CORC comes into being
- The supplier submits life cycle assessment evidence in MyPuro showing net removal.
- An independent auditor (a VVB) audits the facility and checks the data against the methodology. Puro.earth pays for this audit, not the supplier.
- Puro.earth issues CORCs in the Puro Registry for each verified tonne, after the removal has happened. CORCs are not issued in advance.
What happens after issuance
The supplier sells or transfers CORCs directly to a buyer, through a marketplace or through a broker. The buyer retires them once it has reported their use, which stops anyone counting the same tonne twice.
Where CORCs sit on quality lists
Puro.earth calls itself an ICVCM CCP-Eligible programme. That covers the programme; each methodology goes through its own ICVCM assessment before credits can carry the CCP label.
What Senseible does here
Senseible keeps the batch records an auditor reads before a CORC is issued: kiln sensor temperature logs, chain of custody, geotagged photos and lab results in one verifier evidence pack. The VVB checks it and Puro.earth issues the CORCs.
