Best carbon accounting software for 2027
Most tools here cover Scope 1, 2 and 3. The difference shows when an auditor asks where a number came from, or when your data sits in bills instead of an ERP.
Senseible makes one of the tools on this list.
The list
1. Persefoni (Pro and Advanced)
- Who it is for: Pro: companies with low to medium complexity answering customer or investor footprint requests; Advanced: enterprises and financial institutions (PCAF financed emissions).
- Best for: Teams that need a free starting footprint now and an enterprise upgrade path later.
- Pricing: Pro: free. Advanced: on request.
- Strengths: A free Scope 1 to 3 plan that covers all 15 Scope 3 categories. States SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 compliance.
- Limits: Free plan is one user; framework metric exports and the methodology report are paid add-ons. No document reading of bills or invoices found; data comes in through forms, uploads or APIs.
2. Senseible
- Who it is for: MSMEs and exporters (self-serve); enterprises collecting supplier data; lenders.
- Best for: Indian MSMEs and exporters who need a defensible footprint from invoices and bills at low cost.
- Pricing: Free Snapshot plan. Paid plans from ₹499 a month billed yearly, plus GST. Scale on request.
- Strengths: Builds the footprint from bills already kept, with factor and source on every line. Low published rupee price for MSMEs.
- Limits: No SOC 2 or ISO 27001 certification. Verification is Senseible's own expert-supervised check, not third-party assurance. Reports are self-declared drafts; large-enterprise connectors are built per customer.

How to choose
- Scope 1 and 2, with location-based and market-based Scope 2. Ask: "Show me one electricity bill calculated both ways."
- All 15 Scope 3 categories, with a choice of method. Ask: "Which Scope 3 categories can we calculate today, and by which method?"
- Takes data from source: bill and invoice reading, or ERP and utility connectors. Ask: "Can it read our bills as they are, or do we type them in?"
- A line-level trail an assurer can follow: source, edits, approvals. Ask: "Click one total and walk me back to the document."
- Emission factor and its source shown on each line; custom factors allowed. Ask: "Which factor did this line use, from which source and year?"
- Outputs for CSRD, ISSB, CDP, California SB 253 or BRSR. Ask: "Is the framework we file included, or a paid add-on?"
- Published security certification (SOC 2 or ISO 27001). Ask: "Send us the current SOC 2 report or ISO 27001 certificate."
- Target setting and reduction scenarios. Ask: "What does a solar install or a fuel switch do to next year’s total?"
