Does buying BEE star labelled equipment cut our emissions, and how do we count it?

Yes, if it uses fewer kWh. BEE's Standards and Labelling programme rates appliances such as air conditioners and some motors by efficiency. The saving shows up as lower electricity in Scope 2. Count it from metered kWh before and after, not from the label alone, because use hours change.

How to count the saving

Also consider

The old unit refrigerant if it is an AC, which must be recovered, and the new unit embodied emissions in Scope 3 capital goods.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills and applies IPCC 2006 factors and the CEA grid factor (0.710 kg CO2 per kWh), so you can compare Scope 1 and 2 before and after a change from the documents themselves.
