How does a Bhilai fabricator count the steel plate it buys in Scope 3?
Multiply tonnes of plate bought by a per tonne factor, ideally the mill's own figure for that product. If the mill gives none, use an integrated steel average and say so. Plate is usually most of a fabricator's footprint, far more than its own welding and cutting.
Records
- Purchase invoices with tonnes per grade.
- Mill test certificates showing the producing mill.
- Any per tonne figure the mill publishes or shares.
Your own share
Electricity for cutting and welding, gases, and diesel for cranes and trucks. Add these to plate to get a footprint per tonne of finished structure.
For buyers
If your structures are exported to the EU as CBAM goods under chapter 73, the plate becomes a precursor. Keep mill figures by heat or lot.
What Senseible does here
Senseible turns supplier invoices into a Scope 3 record with the supplier, quantity and factor behind every figure, so you can see which supplier data is still missing.
