How does a Jharsuguda fabricator count the aluminium sections it buys?
Aluminium sections bought are purchased goods, Scope 3 category 1: kilograms times a factor per kg, ideally the extruder's own figure. Your workshop's electricity and gas are Scope 2 and 1. The metal is usually far larger than your fabrication energy.
Two parts
- Bought metal: kg from invoices times the extruder's CO2 per kg, or a named database value if they have none.
- Your own work: cutting, drilling, powder coating ovens and site power, from bills.
Ask the extruder
Primary aluminium from captive coal power and recycled aluminium differ by several times. The supplier's figure, with its share of recycled metal, matters more than anything else.
Offcuts
Offcuts sold back to scrap dealers do not reduce what you bought; report them separately.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads the energy invoices behind the making stage into a fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record, and keeps material invoices on the Scope 3 trail. Material factors come from your supplier or a named database and are labelled with their source, so the product figure can be traced line by line.
