What do the five evaluation status choices in CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project) question 7.8 mean for a Scope 3 category I have not measured?

Pick "Relevant, not yet calculated" when you know a category matters but have no figure, and "Not evaluated" only if you have not looked at it. "Not relevant, explanation provided" needs your reasoning. Entering 0 means you calculated the category and it came to zero.

The five choices in CDP's words

What the choice switches on

CDP says the emissions, methodology and supplier-data share columns appear only for "Relevant, calculated" and "Not relevant, calculated". For "Not relevant, explanation provided", CDP asks you to explain in writing how you reached that conclusion, with any qualitative or quantitative reasoning.

Zero is not blank

What does not belong in this table

CDP says exclusions of specific Scope 3 sources, for example suppliers in one country, are reported in question 7.4.1 and not here. Avoided emissions are reported separately from Scope 1, 2 and 3 and are not deducted. Relevance is judged against the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Scope 3 Standard and CDP's Technical Note on the relevance of Scope 3 categories by sector.

Example: a small forging unit in its first CDP response

Example statuses only. Your own review decides which category falls where.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads fuel invoices and electricity bills into monthly records, so the litres, kilowatt hours and months are in one place to copy from. It does not decide which Scope 3 categories are relevant to you, and it does not complete the CDP table.
