CDP asks whether my emissions are third-party verified. What do I answer if they are not?

Answer that no third-party verification or assurance is in place for that scope, and use the comment field to say how your figures were prepared and what evidence sits behind them. An honest no costs you the verification points; claiming verification you do not have can cost far more.

What CDP means by verified

CDP asks, scope by scope, whether an independent third party has verified or assured your emissions figure. If you say yes, it asks for details such as the standard used and the verification statement. CDP keeps a list of verification standards it accepts; ISO 14064-3 is one. A statement has to come from an independent body, not from your own team or from software.

What the answer costs in score

CDP lists third-party verification of emissions among its essential criteria for an A, so without it you will not reach A. The rest of your response is still scored on its own answers. For most small suppliers, a complete and consistent response matters more to the customer than the letter. If you answer CDP's shorter SME questionnaire, read its current scoring guidance, which differs from the full questionnaire.

What to write in the comment

If you want to verify next year

Ask two or three verification bodies for quotes for limited assurance of Scope 1 and 2 under ISO 14064-3. Have a full year of bills and invoices, and the working file linking each to its figure, ready before they start.

What Senseible does here

Senseible's Verified status means its internal rule checks passed, not third-party verification, so in CDP answer no rather than ticking verified. What it does give you is a file-by-file trail, with SHA-256 fingerprints, that a verification body can sample.
