How does a tanker cleaning station count steam and effluent emissions?
Boiler fuel used to make cleaning steam is Scope 1 for the station. Wastewater sent to a treatment plant is Scope 3 category 5. The trucking company that pays for cleaning counts it as a purchased service in its own Scope 3.
Station records
Boiler fuel per month and the number of tankers cleaned.
Effluent volume sent for treatment.
Per tanker figure
Divide the station's emissions by tankers cleaned if a customer asks for a per-wash figure, and say how it was split.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
