How does a Denizli towel mill work out gas boiler emissions per kg?
Multiply the natural gas billed in the month by its emission factor, then divide by kilograms of towels finished. With the IPCC default for natural gas, a cubic metre gives about 2.05 kg of CO2 at typical density; use the calorific value on your gas bill where it is printed.
Steps
Take standard cubic metres of gas from the monthly bill.
Multiply by the emission factor (IPCC default about 2.05 kg CO2 per scm, or one built from the calorific value on the bill).
Divide by kilograms of finished towels from the dispatch register.
Keep it apart
Report electricity separately as Scope 2 and add it only when the buyer asks for a total per kg. Keep the two figures visible so savings from each can be seen.
Worked example: one month (illustrative inputs)
- Natural gas: 50,000 scm x 2.05 = 102,500 kg CO2
- Towels finished: 60,000 kg
- Gas per kg: 102,500 / 60,000 = 1.708 kg CO2 per kg
Quantities are illustrative; use your gas bill and dispatch register.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills (CEA grid factor 0.710 kg CO2 per kWh, CO2 Baseline Database version 21.0) and diesel, LPG and gas invoices (IPCC 2006 defaults) into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record for each site. Intensity per unit uses the activity count you enter, and estimates are labelled as estimates.
