Does ECSBC 2024 apply to a factory or its office block?
ECSBC 2024 covers commercial and office buildings with a connected load of 100 kW or a contract demand of 120 kVA or more. It does not apply to equipment and parts of buildings that use energy for manufacturing processes, so it reaches offices and commercial blocks, not production lines.
What the code covers
- Building envelope, HVAC and hot water, lighting, electrical power and motors, renewable energy systems.
- Site area, water supply and controls, and waste management.
- Commercial or office buildings at or above 100 kW connected load or 120 kVA contract demand.
What it leaves out
- Plug loads.
- Equipment and parts of buildings that use energy for manufacturing processes, unless the code says otherwise.
- Residential buildings, which have their own code.
Will it apply to my project?
The code is enforced through state rules and building bye-laws. Check whether your state has notified it, and whether your office or commercial block on its own crosses the load threshold.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads electricity bills by meter, so an office block on its own connection can be tracked separately from production.
