Senseible

Two buyers want EcoVadis and CDP. Which should a small supplier do first?

Let the calendar decide. CDP opens once a year, from June to October in 2026, while EcoVadis takes submissions any time and publishes about 6 to 8 weeks later. Build your Scope 1 and 2 figures first: they serve both, and EcoVadis accepts a CDP response as evidence for them.

How the two differ for you

A simple rule

  1. Whichever buyer has the earlier hard date goes first. A date written into a contract or a tender beats a general request.
  2. If CDP's window is closed when the requests land, do EcoVadis now and CDP when the next window opens.
  3. If both are open, do CDP first when it costs you no fee and the deadline is close; the work then feeds EcoVadis.
  4. Either way, close last financial year's electricity bills and fuel invoices first. Both ask for your Scope 1 and 2.

Reusing the work

EcoVadis checks submitted carbon figures against supporting documents, and names a CDP or CSR report as an example. So once your CDP response is in, upload it as evidence for the same figures on EcoVadis. Keep the numbers identical in both: a buyer that sees two different totals for the same year will ask which one is wrong.

A Pune forging unit, requests received in November

The unit and dates of the buyers' requests are invented; CDP's 2027 dates are not yet published.

What Senseible does here

Start with the numbers both buyers need: Senseible reads your electricity bills and fuel invoices and gives you Scope 1 and 2 for the year, with the factor and bill behind every line, to enter in CDP and EcoVadis alike.
