What must a Frankfurt data centre report under the EU Energy Efficiency Directive?

Data centres with installed IT power demand of at least 500 kW must report energy, PUE-related, water, waste heat and renewable energy indicators to the European database each year by 15 May, under Article 12 of the Energy Efficiency Directive. Germany's Energy Efficiency Act adds national requirements.

Who reports

Operators of data centres with installed IT power demand of at least 500 kW. The first reports were due in 2024 and they are annual since. Smaller sites are outside this obligation.

What is reported

National rules on top

Germany's Energy Efficiency Act sets further duties for data centres, including energy efficiency targets, renewable electricity and waste heat reuse. Check the current thresholds and dates for your site's start of operation.

Scope 2 is separate

The directive's indicators are not a GHG inventory. Customers asking for emissions still need location and market-based Scope 2 under the GHG Protocol.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads electricity bills and generator fuel invoices into a dated, fingerprinted Scope 1 and 2 record per site, with location and market-based figures where contracts are provided. It does not file reports to the European data centre database.
