Senseible

Is a paper mill covered by India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme?

Only if it is named. Pulp and paper is among the sectors with emission intensity targets under the 2025 target rules, but coverage is plant by plant: a mill has a target only if its name and location appear in the notification, with a baseline and target per tonne.

How to check

  1. Find the latest Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target Rules notification for pulp and paper and any amendment.
  2. Search for your plant name and location.
  3. If listed, note the baseline year, product unit and target for each compliance year.

If you are listed

You must meet your intensity target or buy carbon credit certificates for the shortfall. Monthly fuel, power and production records are the base for the monitoring report.

If you are not

You have no target, but covered customers may ask for your data, and the offset mechanism lets you earn credits from projects under approved methodologies.

What Senseible does here

Senseible reads your fuel invoices and electricity bills and adds up annual energy quantities and emissions, which is the evidence you need to check yourself against a threshold or answer a covered customer. It also shows carbon credit eligibility signals from the same records.
