Is my aluminium recycling or remelting unit covered by CCTS?
Probably not, unless it is named. Secondary aluminium was added by the January 2026 amendment, but only 3 units were reported as obligated. Most remelters and alloy makers are not on the list and have no target, though their buyers may still ask for data.
How to check
- Find the January 2026 amendment to the Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target Rules.
- Search the secondary aluminium schedule for your unit.
- If you are not there, you have no CCTS obligation today.
What buyers ask for
Fuel or electricity per tonne of metal melted, the share of scrap versus primary ingot, and dross losses. A remelter running on scrap usually has a much lower footprint than primary metal, but only records show it.
If you are not named
You have no target, but obligated customers may ask for your energy and emissions data, and the offset mechanism lets non-obligated entities earn credits from projects under methodologies BEE has approved.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads fuel, electricity and production documents into dated, fingerprinted plant records, so the monthly intensity behind a compliance figure can be traced to its source.
