Does an Angul aluminium smelter have an emission intensity target under India's CCTS?
Only if the plant is named. Aluminium is among the sectors with emission intensity targets under the 2025 target rules, and coverage is plant by plant: a smelter has a target only if its name and location appear in the notification, with a baseline and a target per tonne for each year.
How to check
- Find the latest Greenhouse Gases Emission Intensity Target Rules notification for aluminium and any amendment.
- Search for the plant name and location.
- Note the baseline year, product unit and target for each compliance year.
If listed
The plant must meet its intensity target or buy carbon credit certificates for the shortfall. Monthly fuel, power, anode and production records feed the monitoring report, and captive power use is central to the number.
CCTS and CBAM differ
CCTS targets cover the plant's intensity under Indian rules, while the CBAM figure for aluminium counts direct emissions only. Keep both calculations from the same records.
What Senseible does here
Senseible reads anode, fuel and electricity invoices into a dated, fingerprinted record per site, so a buyer can see which inputs sit behind each figure. Factors outside India are entered from the official source and labelled.
