Is there an inter-state transmission charge waiver for battery storage in India?

Yes, for co-located batteries. A June 2025 Ministry of Power order gives a 100% waiver of inter-state transmission charges for battery storage connected at the same ISTS substation as a renewable project and commissioned by 30 June 2028, if its power is consumed outside the state. Batteries commissioned later get no such waiver.

What a factory should check

Ask the developer for the battery's scheduled commissioning date, the substation it connects at, and whether the power will cross state lines. The waiver shapes the landed price of round the clock renewable power; your state's own charges still apply.

What Senseible does here

Senseible counts units drawn from a storage project by where the stored energy came from, using the developer's monthly statement, so a renewable battery supply is not treated as grid power by default.
